These diaries offer a daily record of his activities, which included dinners, weddings, and funerals of friends, some of them prominent Philadelphians. The entries made during the Revolutionary War show Hiltzheimer's activities, namely supplying horses and hay to the Continental Army. On July 28, 1777, he bought from Jacob Graff, Jr. the house at which Thomas Jefferson stayed when he wrote the Declaration of Independence.
